If I was stranded on a deserted island, let me assure you that my makeup bag would not be at the top of my list of things to be stranded with. However, if I were afforded the luxury of having a small makeup bag with me, there are five items that would absolutely need to be inside.
This list serves as a good starting point if you want to put together an “emergency makeup kit” to keep in your bag or your car or to quickly grab if you think you might get stranded somewhere 😉
- Loreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation
I have always struggled to find my “perfect” foundation. I used to be a bit of a foundation snob, and I made the rounds through many high-end foundations sold at Sephora, but I was never 100% satisfied. I heard a ton of hype about this “drugstore” foundation and finally decided to give it a try. I had zero expectations, and I even remember telling my friend Ann-Alecia, a fellow makeup junkie, that I was going to be very frustrated if I finally found my “holy grail” in a drugstore foundation after years of throwing money to expensive ones. Well, guess what happened. My main concerns with foundation are coverage and how long I can go without blotting/touching up. Let me tell you- Loreal Infallible hits it out of the park in both categories. It is full coverage, and as long as I set it with a powder, I am good to go all day with no touch ups or blotting.
As I mentioned, I have to set my foundation with a powder. I have been setting it with the Tarte Amazonian Clay Loose Powder Foundation, and this is a nice combination. However, I do not love the packaging of this powder, especially if I am trying to have it in my bag to use on the go. I have recently purchased a pressed setting powder from Tarte, and i’m hoping it will work well with my foundation and replace the loose one. A powder is a great thing to have with you in case you need a bit more coverage or need to eliminate some shine.
- Kat Von D Tattoo Liner
I know this is cliché nowadays, but winged liner is my jam. I wear a wing with just about every eye makeup look, regardless of the ocassion. And Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner is my favorite. Period. It is a liquid liner with a felt tip and it makes application so simple. The product is not too wet, so you have more control when creating the line. Bottom line: if you like winging your liner, you need this.
When you’re in a bind with no makeup, mascara is the easiest way to amp up your “no makeup” look. A few quick swipes of a good mascara makes your eyes look bigger and more awake. I am constantly trying new mascaras, but I have a couple that I love and repurchase consistently: Urban Decay Perversion, Covergirl Lash Blast, and Too Faced Better Than Sex. I only have Urban Decay’s Perversion in my possession right now, so I have only included a picture of that mascara.
- MAC Crème Cup
Throwing a little bit of color on your lips is a great and easy way to amp up your look and feel more put together. This lipstick is the one that I have in my purse at all times. Okay, not the only one… I’m definitely guilty of keeping an arsenal of lip products with me at all times. However, this is my go-to shade. It is a beautiful light nudey-pink shade, and it is a cremesheen; both of these characteristics make it super easy to quickly apply when you need something on your lips that you can wear without tedious application or concerns about whether it will match whatever look you are currently rocking. I know matte lips are all the rage right now, and I am certainly on that bandwagon. But when i think of a lip color that is effortless and just works for me, MAC’s Crème Cup is it.
- MAC Crème Cup
The great thing about having items along the lines of these 5 with you is that you can create a quick, simple look in just a few minutes using only these products. If you just planned to run a few errands and left the house barefaced but then got a text inviting you to lunch/coffee/drinks/etc., this survival kit can help you look and feel your best on the go!
What would be in your deserted island makeup bag?!
