Month: February 2016

Monthly Jams ♬ February

music february

Hi friends!

I can’t believe we are already at the end of February, even though we do get a bonus day tomorrow! But, with the end of a month comes the time for my monthly music favorites :)

I feel like this month flew by, and the additions to my playlist were few and far between. Quality over quantity, though, amirite?! Without further adieu, here they are:

  • Death of a Bachelor – Panic at the Disco
    • I loved Panic when I was in high school, and a small confession: I remember referring to them as “P!@TD” in my Myspace music section… One of those thing I wish I could go back in time and erase.
  • Hypnotized – Akon
    • I have an inexplicable love for Akon, and this is a songs I rarely find myself skipping when it comes on shuffle.
  • Pillowtalk – ZAYN
    • Do I even need to explain myself on this one? Didn’t think so.
  • My House – Flo Rida
    • This is one of those catchy songs that I love because I can just picture it playing in the backyard while we’re BBQing by the pool. I’m ready for summer, obviously. And I am a sucker for a catchy tune.
  • Low Life – Future, feat. The Weeknd
    • I love basically anything The Weeknd touches, honestly, and this song is no exception.
  • Love on the Brain – Rihanna
    • Quite possibly my favorite Rihanna song to date. It has a Motown vibe that I LOVE, and it’s definitely been on repeat since the first time I heard it. What is your favorite song on her new album?

That’s all I have for this month… I’m chalking that up to February being a shorter month than all the rest 😉 Hopefully I have more music discoveries in March. What were your favorite songs during February?!

Skincare, Bright & Early

Hi friends!

As you know if you saw my Skincare: After-Hours post, my nighttime routine involves the use of quite a few products. This can partially be attributed to the fact that I have the luxury of time in the evenings. In the mornings, I tend to follow the “fireman routine”, as my dad so lovingly refers to it. I am a chronic “snooze-hitter”, because that extra 5 (10, 15, 20…) minutes of sleep really matters! So by the time I’m actually out of the shower and ready to take care of my skin, I have to choose wisely and stick to the basics.

Daytime face wash, toner, & moisturizer

For me, the “basics” in the morning are:

  • Face wash
  • Toner
  • Moisturizer

I do not use any facial wipes, serums, or eye creams for the daytime. I do the bare minimum so I can get to makeup application and get out the door on (or almost on) time 😉

Here are the specific products I’m currently using:

  • Face wash: Origins Checks & Balances

    Origins Checks and Balances

I have loved this face wash since I first tried it. I strayed from it for a little while, but I’m happy to say we’ve rekindled our relationship. It does exactly what the name implies; it is gentle and doesn’t dry out patches that need moisture while at the same time balancing oilier patches.

  • Toner: Origins Zero Oil
    Origins Zero Oil

Honestly, I don’t have strong feelings about this toner one way or the other. You can definitely feel it working when you put it on, but I think it may be too astringent for my liking, especially for use in the morning. When I finish this bottle, I will likely shop around for a gentler toner.

  • Moisturizer: Origins GinZing
    Origins GinZing

I just realized my entire morning routine is from Origins. That is completely unintentional, but it is a testament to how great the brand is, because I obviously always gravitate toward it. Okay, back to the moisturizer. It’s very nice and refreshing. The smell is amazing; it is citrusy and fresh and a very awakening (can that be used as an adjective for a scent?!) scent that is a pleasant start to the day. I will likely repurchase it once my current jar is done.

As you can see, this is much less time consuming and gives me more precious minutes to wing my liner and apply my lipstick, and those extra minutes are crucial. It is so important to take care of your skin both in the morning and at night. An important step in a morning skincare routine that appears to be missing from mine is the application of SPF. On the days that I’m wearing makeup, my primer has SPF and takes care of this step for me. On days that I am going au naturel, I do like to apply the Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Defense which has an SPF of 30.

What are your favorite daytime skincare products?
